The remarkable clash in the 9 round of Premier League will see an exciting clash between Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola. Tottenham from a team with the aim of competing for a place in the European Cup is rising strongly in recent times under Mourinho. Take on an opponent like Manchester City at home would be a chance for Mourinho to assert to the world that he’s still a special person.
Tottenham in a new position
Over the past decade in the Premier League, Tottenham, along with Manchester City, have risen to become the leading football forces in England. They broke the Big 4 concept and expanded it to the Big 6. But unlike Manchester City, they have not won any significant trophies. This comes from the development directions of the team when Tottenham has spent enough money in the transfer market. Their success comes from leveraging the team’s available resources and finding young talent in other divisions.
Going into this weekend’s fourth game, Tottenham in a different position than they were in previous seasons against Manchester City. They are in second place, only one point behind top-placed Manchester City. It seems that the uncertainty at the start of the season will keep the London club from having an unsomed season, but Mourinho has proved otherwise. After losing to Everton, they were unbeaten in their next seven matches with five wins and two draws and a tie for second in the Premier League standings.
Mourinho’s second season in charge is highly anticipated. From Porto, Chelsea (2 term), Inter Milan, Real Madrid to Manchester United, Mourinho always has trophies. And this is what Tottenham’s supporters are most looking forward to. Although known for their scientific defensive philosophy, in different circumstances, the teams Mourinho leads also show a destructive attacking power. In the past, Mourinho’s Real Madrid have been la Liga’s top-scoring champions (in 2012) and this is also being shown at Tottenham.
Five seasons of playing side by side in the attacking line made Son Heung Min and Harry Kane understand each other in each line. Started as a Target but Kane has changed a lot since Mourinho’s arrival. He stepped down to pull the ball (develop the ball) more, creating space for his team-mates and passes that reminded north Londoners of Luka Modric or Eriksen. This arrangement by Mourinho shows absolute efficiency. The clearest evidence must have come from the back-up against Southampton when Sonny had a Poker and all four assists came from a Harry Kane name.
Going into the home game against Manchester City, Tottenham’s chances of winning are certainly higher in recent seasons. Mourinho knows Pep Guardiola too well and more importantly Tottenham’s in a very different position. Against a team with a pendant to control the ball is always Mourinho’s favourite opponent and let’s wait for Harry Kane’s passes or Son Heung Min’s wind-torn tackles that will bring victory to Spurs.
Will Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City return to the championship race?
Manchester City were 10th with 12 points from seven games. This was the worst start by a team led by Pep Guardiola. The special season with the impact of Covid 19 has affected a lot of teams and Manchester City is no exception. Their pillars in turn have to be friends with hospital beds. Despite having one game to play, it was clear that in their march to North London, their position was very different from in recent seasons.
Beating Tottenham at home would be a great affirmation of Manchester City’s Premier League ambitions this season. Their competitors are in very good form, with harry kane and Son Heung Min as analysed above. Wanting to know this, perhaps Pep should draw experience from his neighbor. Manchester United conceded six goals against Spur’s sharp counterattacks. It is known that the way Mancity and Man Utd play is different, but there is no denying the huge damage in the counterattacks of the Tottenham players.
To win this match, Pep probably still had to look forward to kevin de Bruyne’s excellence as usual. Fernan Torres scored three goals against Germany in a midweek match. The Valencia winger is likely to be far more confident of returning to the Premier League this weekend. If they can’t win three points against Tottenham, Manchester City will struggle to compete for the title for the rest of the season.
