Manchester United vs Tottenham: Man Utd defeated 1-6 against Tottenham

Opening the second minute score, but the mistake of the defense plus Martial’s red card caused Man Utd to lose to Tottenham 1-6 in the fourth round of the Premier League.

Goals: Fernandes (penalty) 2 ‘- Ndombele 4’, Son 7 ‘, 37’, Kane 30 ‘, (penalty) 79’, Aurier 51 ‘.

Red card: Martial 28 ‘.

The first seven minutes of a Premier League fourth-round match were like a boxing match, where two players rushed together to deliver punches and were ready to show the other cheek to take the blow. Within seven brief minutes, three goals were scored, and the team that conceded more had a disappointing defeat as the final whistle sounded.

Man Utd is the team that opens the score. Immediately after the serve, Bruno Fernandes poked the slot for Anthony Martial to penetrate the Tottenham penalty area. Davinson Sanchez, who has been trusted by Jose Mourinho this season, illegally blocked the French striker. Referee Anthony Taylor standing nearby immediately pointed his finger at the 11m mark, without the help of VAR. Fernandes completes the mission. In the stands, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer calmly celebrated the goal. He rubbed his hands with satisfaction, and perhaps dreamed of bringing home the win last season, when Mourinho had just taken over Tottenham.

Solskjaer has many reasons to believe in three points because Mourinho never wins every time he meets the old team on away field. Six times against Chelsea and Man Utd, he drew two, lost four. But this time, the “Special One” is helped by the opponent himself. Two minutes after the goal, Tottenham equalized thanks to Harry Maguire’s mistake. The “Red Devils” captain repeatedly failed, from the header returned to David De Gea, to his attempt to break the ball away, despite not being under great pressure. In a decisive situation, the former Leicester City player also knocked Luke Shaw, creating an opportunity for Tanguy Ndombele to cross from below, close to equalizing.

Maguire’s downward streak lasted since Covid-19 and showed no signs of stopping. Before Tottenham, the weakness of the 27-year-old midfielder’s concentration was exposed. After making a direct mistake leading to the opponent’s equalizer, he continued to lack alertness as if he had been hit by a hit. In the seventh minute, Maguire pulled Harry Kane down, preventing Tottenham’s counterattack, but did not rush in to prevent the opponent from a quick free kick, when his teammates could not back down. Kane took the chance, passed the line down to Son Heung-min, before the Korean striker speeded past Eric Bailly, then beat De Gea with a shot into the far corner.

Before welcoming Tottenham, Man Utd received a lot of good news in the transfer market. They are about to welcome Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles tomorrow October 5. Both are experienced players, fought for many years in Europe, and are expected to help the young team in Solskjaer’s hands play coherently in big games. However, while the actual effect on the field is still in the future, the pressure from two deals blown by the British media is the blockbuster that harms the “Red Devils”. Two people are likely to lose the main kick to Cavani and Telles – Martial and Shaw play like a dream. Shaw kept making mistakes, letting Serge Aurier cut deep into the middle, even intimidating De Gea’s goal in the 26th minute. Martial was mentally strained, leading to disqualification.

Before Martial’s red card, many positions of Man Utd showed psychological signs. Maguire once again made a mistake on the side of the Tottenham field, opening the opportunity to face De Gea for Son Heung-min. Marcus Rashford was blown offside by the referee when he hit the post in the only 90 minutes. By the 28th minute, the game was out of Man Utd’s control. Martial was raised by Erik Lamela and threw his hand in the face of Tottenham in a corner. With such collision, often the player will lie on the court to catch cards. However, the French striker responded by slapping Lamela in the face. The Tottenham winger immediately held his face and fell to the field.

When many Man Utd players were bewildered, referee Anthony Taylor approached, holding a red card for Martial. Despite the home team’s distributive efforts, the decision is upheld. Once again, the VAR didn’t get into the situation, though many red-shirt players believed in need of a penalty, at least a yellow card for Lamela.

Playing a lack of people, in front of an opponent who is taking advantage of and proving to be older and dirty, Man Utd gives up as an inevitable end. Two minutes after playing more than people, Tottenham widened the gap. From Eric Bailly’s broken pass, Son Heung-min stole it and then passed it back to Kane. In a position that was not accompanied by anyone, the English striker cushioned the ball with one touch and hit De Gea’s net.
